All about Milia

Milia are small, white bumps that can appear around your eyes and other areas of your face. They occur when dead skin cells become trapped beneath the surface of your skin. Milia don’t pose any health risks, but they can be unsightly and difficult to remove. That’s where Advanced Electrolysis comes in.

At PURE, we use a specialised in a device that emits energy from its tip. When the energy comes into contact with the skin, it causes the targeted area to “ablate,” essentially vaporizing the surface and freeing the milia, allowing it to be extracted. This method is safe and effective for removing not only milia, but also other growths like skin tags and sebaceous hyperplasia.

During the treatment, we will clean and prepare your skin, and then insert a new needle into the device. You’ll feel a brief, hot sensation as the energy is directed over the milia, and it will pop out. Some milia may require a longer treatment time or the use of a cotton bud to coax it out, but the process is generally quick and painless. 

After the treatment, you may notice a small black crust in the area where the milia was removed. This is similar to a scab and will fall off on its own in a few days. We recommend applying sunscreen to the area for four weeks afterward, as the skin will be new and sensitive. If you had a larger milia or blemish removed, you may notice that the “new skin” is slightly pinker in appearance, but it will blend in with the rest of your skin over time.
